About
KAMONN is a self-taught French painter born in 1998, with Auvergnat roots deeply embedded in his vision. He works exclusively with a palette knife, a direct gesture, without the possibility of second thoughts, that imposes on every canvas the truth of a single decision. Layers accumulate, masses collide and resolve. What remains on the canvas is not an image of the world: it is the trace of a contact with it.
His work is born of travel and presence in a place. The Aubrac, Roussillon, Morocco, Brazil, Austria, the Middle East, these traversed territories nourish a landscape painting that is neither documentary nor ornamental. Colour is primary: loaded ochres, dense blues, muted greens. Each hue carries the weight of a light, an hour, a terrain. Applied in bold masses on large formats, it asserts its physical presence before inviting contemplation.
What KAMONN seeks in painting is a return to the primary, to raw reality, to first sensation, to what exists before language. His practice is built on four fundamental convictions: authenticity, freedom, the primacy of the senses, curiosity. And on one paradoxical certainty: not knowing is the most precious thing in technique.
A 2026 resident at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris with the support of the city of Asnières-sur-Seine, KAMONN is preparing a solo exhibition at the Château d'Asnières presenting twenty-three new oil paintings. His works are shown in solo exhibitions and available for sale in the studio, by appointment.
